Mid-Week Update and Devotion 3/31/2020

Update from Elders/Leadership

Dear Church Family,
With the implementation of the President’s initiative of “15 Days to Slow the Spread”, we have decided that Calvary will cancel all services for the next 2 weeks, in order to comply with the request of our government, in accordance with Romans 13. This is not an easy decision to make, as we desire to be together as a family and worship our Creator, Sustainer, and Savior with one another, but we know it is the right decision.
At this time, we plan to meet together again on April 5 at our regular times. We will continue to monitor this actively and rapidly evolving event. At the time I am typing this letter, we now have a confirmed case of coronavirus in our community that is not affiliated with travel, which means we have now entered a period of community spread of this virus. We ask for your patience and prayers as we navigate this unique situation.
We have asked our office staff to work from home during this time, in order to protect them and their families. We will be checking the mail and the phone messages on a regular basis.
Please join me in continuing to give to the church. This is for your good. In a time of uncertainty, to put your trust in the Lord by continuing to commit to give to His work is an act of faith that honors Him. We encourage you to give joyfully. His Word instructs us to give not just in times of plenty, but at all times. It is a constant reminder that we always have been, and always are completely reliant on God as our Provider. You may give online, or mail your check to the church office.
We ask all of you to be extremely diligent during this time, especially those over age 60 with chronic medical conditions, and all of you over age 80, as you are more susceptible to this virus. Please communicate ANY needs that you may have to us; we are here to serve you. We will gladly pick up groceries, meals, medicine, supplies, and drop it off at your house, leaving it on your doorstep. Please stay at home and limit your visitors for your protection. There are phone numbers listed at the bottom of this for you to reach out to us for your needs.
Continue to practice social distancing, as advised by the CDC. It is critical that we slow the spread of this virus, and we need to do our part to love our neighbor by keeping them and ourselves healthy.
Finally, remember that God is sitting on His throne. All is under His sovereign hand. He is in complete control. “The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything.” (Phillipians 4:5-6)
With all our love in Christ,
CBC Leadership

The call to missions is a vital part of CBC’s overall strategy for preaching the Gospel to the entire world. We support mission work around the globe in various capacities.
In 2014 we commissioned a missionary couple to go to the Pacific Rim where we have adopted an Unengaged Unreached People Group (UUPG). In 2017, the Rice Mountain People were officially moved from the UUPG list to the UPG (Unreached People Group) list by the International Mission Board of the SBC. Calvary continues its mission to the Rice Mountain People in the Pacific Rim today with the goal of removing them from the UPG list. You can read the story of our vision trip in the SBTexan. Just Click here or on the magazine icon to your left.
Added to this work, CBC has also adopted four IMB missionary families who serve in various locations around the world; and a little closer to home, one of our own is serving as a chaplain in the U.S. Army. We have another family in our church family actively involved in mission work in Montenegro. They plan on making this a full time mission endeavor in 2020. Check out their website at  If you would like to financially support this mission endeavor, click here.
As for local mission work, we’re involved in the Jesus Closet Ministry,  sharing the Gospel with the homeless, transient and marginalized people of Tyler through supplying their need for toiletries.
Here are ways you can be involved:
1.  Help collect travel size toiletry items and place in the bin located in the missions corner of the Worship Center.
2.  Help pass out items and share God’s love on Saturday mornings at 8:45.
3.  Pray that this ministry will be used to encourage those in need as well as provide an opportunity to share Christ’s hope.
4.  If you are not able to be involved on Saturday mornings, but would still like to serve using your time during the week, contact the church office at 903-939-3200.
Check out the  Facebook  page for continuous updates, pictures of the ministry and testimonies.
